Charles Reddig Obituary

Charles R. Reddig

SAYBROOK - Charles Richard Reddig, long time resident of Ashtabula, and most recently of Saybrook, Ohio, was fatally injured in an automobile accident on Route 20 in Saybrook on Monday, August 19, 2019.  Dick, as he was called by friends and family, was born in 1936 and would have turned 83 on September 3, 2019.
He is the son of Henry and Thelma (Dye) Reddig, they lived on the shores of Lake Erie on Walnut Blvd. for many years before eventually moving to Florida. Henry died in 1976 and Thelma in 1995.

For many years Dick owned and ran Maxwell Industries, Inc., a machine tool business started by his father, Henry, who located the operation next to the lift bridge on 5th Street in Ashtabula.  Dick relocated the business and his residence to Saybrook about 15 years ago.    Dick’s education from Harbor High School, Culver Military Academy, and Lehigh University, where he obtained an MBA, prepared him for his career in business. Beyond his passion for business, Dick was an accomplished pianist, and for many years an avid tennis player and instructor.  Dick was also a passionate fan of the Cleveland Browns throughout his life.

Dick is survived by his sister, Dyeann Reddig-Dummer of DeBary, Florida; son Scott Reddig of Melbourne, Florida; his daughters: Patricia Shinde of Montgomery, Texas and Diana Reddig-Horstman of Kalida, Ohio; and a step son Michael Mercilliott of Ashtabula, Ohio; as well as 7 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his long time friend and loving partner, Karen May of Saybrook, who jointly cared for an adopted grandson, Evan Rapose.

He was preceded in his passing by his parents and his daughters Heather and Renee Reddig.

A funeral service for friends and family will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 Depot Road.  Burial will take place at Saybrook Township Cemetery immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
